Unforgettable Fun & Values at Camp Sababa 2024
08.06.24 | Stories
Over the past two weeks, the laughter of happy campers filled the air at Temple Judea's Camp Sababa. Our campers immersed themselves in summer fun and explored Jewish values, led by our dedicated Religious School team and staff. It was a whirlwind of gaga pit battles, pool splashes, challah baking, creative art projects, themed days, joyful Jewish melodies, Torah learning, and other unforgettable moments. New connections were made and friendships deepened over heartwarming moments and shared experiences.
Amidst all this fun, students delved into Mussar, a Jewish ethics system from the 1800s, learning how to apply values like seder (order), savlanut (patience), hakarat hatov (gratitude), ometz lev (bravery), Shabbat (rest), and simcha (joy) to their modern lives. They crafted bravery shields and dressed as superheroes to boost their confidence, and used gratitude jars to count their blessings. Learning patience and order became memorably engaging when paired with an hourglass art project, or creating bullet journals. Activities like yoga and scavenger hunts turned practice into fun! Campers even built age-appropriate “Mussar Toolkits” with practical items to help them embody these values at home. Families joined in the fun during our Sababa family Shabbat and “practice” Havdalah, where we ate, worshiped, danced, and played together to practice the values of rest and joy.
Even though Camp Sababa’s summer session has come to a close, there’s still time for your kids to become part of the engaged learning at TJ. Our fantastic Sunday or Tuesday Religious School starts in September. It’s the perfect space to explore Jewish values, history, Torah, and friendships interactively! Plus, we have more Camp Sababa headed your way as we bring the magic of Camp Sababa to several Shabbats this fall, not to mention our winter camp session, which includes an optional overnight experience! For more information or to register for Camp Sababa, email ReligiousSchool@TempleJudea.
