Renewing Your Commitment From The Heart
05.20.25 | Stories, Articles
This week, we step into summer with deep gratitude for the people who make Temple Judea the vibrant, multigenerational Jewish home that it is: you. This is also the time that we invite you to renew your annual commitment — not just to your synagogue, but to your community: a place where toddlers sing Shabbat songs, teens lead with heart, adults keep learning, and elders gather as lifelong friends. This past year was filled with meaningful moments, many of which we celebrated in the Annual Report shared last week. And this commitment — your commitment — is what makes it all happen.
At our recent Annual Meeting, Rabbi Aaronson shared a powerful line from the Talmud: “Ein kemach, ein Torah; ein Torah, ein kemach.” Without sustenance, there is no Torah — and without Torah, no sustenance. Your support is what fuels this community. It’s what allows us to teach, to celebrate, to care for one another in moments big and small. We also spoke about our goal for 2025-26 to become more communicative and transparent as an institution about what it takes to run our synagogue. We truly believe that by educating our membership and creating transparency, we can inspire a more vibrant, dedicated culture of giving within our community.
In truth, it costs nearly $4000 per household each year to keep Temple Judea running smoothly — to support our clergy and educators, offer meaningful programs, and maintain the warmth and care we provide every day. Most families are not expected to give at that full amount. Our commitment levels are set thoughtfully, taking into account other financial commitments to the Jewish community like tuition, so that everyone can participate in a way that makes sense.
One way we help bridge the gap between our actual costs and what members contribute is through Temple Judea's Pillar program. Pillars are those who give $1,000 or more above their minimum expected contribution — a group that includes long-time members as well as younger adults and families who have embraced the Jewish value of tzedakah by giving an annual gift from the heart. Pillars are the steady foundation behind so much of what we do. Their generosity makes it possible to offer financial assistance, bring programs to life, and show up for one another in meaningful ways. By stepping into the role of sustaining the community they love, Pillars make a profound difference. If becoming a Pillar feels right for you this year, we’d love to talk! However you give back to your community, please know that your presence matters. When you renew your commitment, you’re saying yes to Jewish life, yes to community, and yes to the kind of sacred belonging that makes Temple Judea feel like home. Please keep an eye out for your renewal email in the coming weeks — or feel free to reach out anytime to . We’re so glad you’re here, and we can’t wait to share another meaningful year with you.
