Rekindling Your Inner Light For Chanukah
12.12.23 | Stories, Articles
The Chanukah story tells us that a miracle happened when a small amount of oil lasted longer than expected: we celebrate a light that continued to shine, even without the needed fuel. These days, many of us might also feel as if we, too, are running on fumes. The holiday season brings extra stress and pressure as we rush to meet expectations for celebrations and gift giving. But self-care is a deeply Jewish tradition - so don’t forget to treat yourself with the same love that you give to others. As you kindle the holiday lights this season, take a moment to ensure that your inner flame shines bright, too! One of the best ways to practice self-care is to connect with community. Whether you love knitting, films, reading, noshing, card games, or something else entirely, you can find your bliss at Temple Judea and make space to indulge in activities that bring you happiness. Check out the calendar for all the exciting happenings. For help discovering the right activity for you, or to join a Havurah, email . Here’s a sampling of what you’ll find at TJ in the coming weeks and months:
Clear Your Space, Clear Your Mind. Declutter your life and make a positive impact by donating clothing and coats to our B'tzelem Clothing Drive all week in our lobby. Your donations will go to Hope the Mission to help those in need. A double mitzvah - helping yourself and others!
Retreat and Rejuvenate. Join the one-day Women’s Retreat @ Temple Judea (Saturday, January 6) themed “Water in the Desert.” Recharge your soul with meaningful meals among friends, unique creative activities, yoga, comedy and more!
Unlock the Spark of Creation. Let our award-winning Artist in Residence, Michael Ochs, inspire you as we explore the theme of “Music and Creation” in two dazzling performances (January 19 and 20). Become a sponsor for private pre-concert Havdalah meet-and-greet with Michael Ochs and all the performers.
Welcome Shabbat. Join your Temple Judea community every Friday night at 6:15pm for a soulful Erev Shabbat with prayer and music.
Take a Break. Instead of cooking breakfast on Christmas morning, register to join the TJ community and savor some delicious pancakes at the TJ Brotherhood’s annual pancake breakfast!
Embrace More Movement. Starting January 12, experience the joy of nature with our new TJ women’s hiking group: Judea Outdoors! Healthy exercise and community await you on these beautiful morning hikes led by Rabbi Cantor Wissot and friends.
Inner Artist Unleashed. Parents of all ages and stages are invited to join Ilana Jaffe-Lewis on January 24 for a 75-minute stress-relieving class. Dive into the joys and challenges of parenthood through art therapy and Jewish practice. No background in Jewish learning or art making is necessary!
Let's welcome the new year not just as a change in date, but as an opportunity to ignite a brighter, more fulfilling path ahead.
