The Three Yoms

    04.22.25 | Stories

Passover has just ended, but the heart of the Jewish calendar remains full. As we emerge from the story of liberation, we enter a sacred stretch of time known as the “three Yoms”—a season that calls us to remember, to honor, and to celebrate the resilience of our people and the spirit of our homeland.

We begin with Yom HaShoah, Holocaust Remembrance Day, observed April 23–24. At our Erev Shabbat & Yom HaShoah Service on Friday, April 25 at 6:15pm, we gather in quiet reflection to honor the six million Jews who perished in the Holocaust. Through prayer, memory, and community, we recommit ourselves to the values of justice, dignity, and remembrance.

Just days later, our hearts turn to Yom HaZikaron, Israel’s Memorial Day. On Tuesday, April 29 at 6:15pm, we’ll join the greater Los Angeles Jewish community in Beverly Hills for a Community Night of Remembrance. In unity and reverence, we remember the soldiers and victims of terror who gave their lives for Israel’s safety and future—a poignant reminder of the cost of independence and the power of collective memory.

As Yom HaZikaron gives way to Yom Ha’Atzmaut, we move from mourning into celebration. On Thursday, May 1 at 9:30am, joy takes root with the ECC's Cycles for Smiles event and festive Israeli celebration. This family-friendly morning fills our campus with music, movement, and meaning—all in support of Beit Issie Shapiro, our sister school in Israel serving children with severe disabilities. It’s a joyful expression of compassion and connection across continents.

Our celebration continues on Friday, May 2, with a joyful Erev Shabbat service at 6:15pm, followed by an evening of music and meaning at 7:30pm. Join Rabbi Cantor Wissot and special guest Dor Kaminka for History in Song—a spirited journey through Israeli music that tells the complex and beautiful story of our people and our homeland, accompanied by a festive Israeli vegetarian dinner.

Each of these gatherings invites us to connect—to memory, to meaning, and to one another. We hope you’ll join us as we walk through this season together, holding both sorrow and song with deep gratitude and unshakable pride.
