Joining Forces for Good

As Reform Jews, we’re guided by our core values: tikkun olam (repairing the world), tzedek (justice), and a deep commitment to protecting the vulnerable. That’s why Temple Judea is proud to announce a new initiative with the Religious Action Center of Reform Judaism.

Ellen Israel, our longtime RAC-CA representative, shares that joining this coalition of Reform congregations across California is a powerful way for our Temple Judea community to amplify our voices, take collective action, and stand up for the issues we believe in.

This week, RAC-CA is kicking off their powerful campaign to tackle climate injustice head-on. In just the first weeks of 2025, devastating fires tore through neighborhoods in Los Angeles, forcing mass evacuations and causing an estimated $250 billion in damage. And while families are paying the price, the fossil fuel giants who bear the bulk of the responsibility have yet to step up.

In response, we are joining RAC-CA to demand that fossil fuel companies finally pay their fair share for the climate destruction they’ve caused. The Polluters Pay Climate Superfund Act (SB 684/AB 1243), led by Senator Caroline Menjivar and Assemblymember Dawn Addis, would require companies to cover the true costs of their emissions. Funds raised through this bill would go directly toward rebuilding homes, supporting small businesses, protecting public health, and creating a more climate-resilient California. This is about justice — economic, environmental, and moral.

At least 10 other states are considering similar legislation this year. In fact, Vermont and New York passed their own climate superfund bills in 2024.

This is a historic moment, and you can join other Temple Judea members and be part of it. To get involved, contact Ellen Israel at   and register here for the RAC-CA Make Polluters Pay campaign launch this Wednesday, June 25 @ 7pm via Zoom.

Let’s raise our voices and help California lead the way toward climate justice.
