2025 Artist-In-Residence: Joe Buchanan
At Temple Judea, our Artist in Residence program offers a fresh way to connect with tradition by brining extraordinary musicians to our community for Shabbat Shira, a special Shabbat that honors the musical moment in Jewish biblical history when Moses and Miriam led the Israelites across the Sea of Reeds, celebrating their liberation from Egypt with song. It’s a time for us to come together in joy, celebrate the power of music in our lives, and explore new ways to deepen our Jewish identity.
This year, we are thrilled to welcome Joe Buchanan as our 2025 Artist in Residence for his Judea Tour. a Texas-born singer-songwriter, brings a unique blend of country music and Jewish themes, shaped by his personal journey into Judaism. As someone who discovered his Jewish identity later in life, Joe’s music speaks to the power of connection, healing, and the universal experiences that bind us all. His songs invite us to reflect on our own paths, our struggles, and our triumphs, all while offering a space for deep, joyous community.
Over his residency, Joe will lead a series of events designed to lift our spirits, inspire conversation, and unite us through song. His music radiates openness, warmth, and authenticity, and we can’t wait for you to experience it! Here’s what’s in store:
- Wednesday, February 5 @ 12pm: Choosing to Be Chosen Torah discussion—Join Joe as he draws from his personal journey and the wisdom of the Torah.
- Friday, February 7 @ 6:15pm: Friday Night Lights Shabbat Shira—Experience a very special Shabbat Shira service filled with music, joy, and energy as Joe leads us in a country-forward Shabbat celebration.
- Saturday, February 8 @ 5pm: Dinner & Joe Buchanan Live Concert—Dig into some mouthwatering BBQ with your community at 5pm, followed by the magic of Joe’s live performance! His unique blend of country, faith, and Jewish spirit will make this concert a night to remember. Register Now
- Sunday, February 9 at 9am: Songs for the Youngins... and the Rest of Y’all—Joe will pop into Religious School to lead a casual sing-a-long during Religious School for TK-3rd grade students and their families. Then he'll join our 4-6th graders for a music filled tefilah.
