We are delighted to share that on August 11, Temple Judea's very own Rabbi Bruce Raff and his wife Tamar will be awarded honorary doctorates from the American Jewish University's School for Jewish Education and Leadership, honoring their exceptional contributions to Jewish education.
The Raff family has a long history at Temple Judea, beginning with Tamar who grew up here -- you can even find her in one of the Confirmation class photos! Tamar's journey from those early days at Temple Judea, to her role as Director of Judaic Studies at Valley Beth Shalom Day School for the past 28 years, is a testament to her dedication to Jewish education. She has developed impactful educational programs, led numerous Israel trips, and inspired countless students with her passion for Israel and the Hebrew language.
Rabbi Bruce Raff, Tamar's perfect partner in this mission, has worn many hats here at Temple Judea over the past 30+ years. From his roles as Director of Education and Executive Director, to his current position as Rabbi in Residence, Rabbi Raff has consistently championed educational excellence and innovative models for Jewish education. Rabbi Raff shared, “Throughout my career, I’ve witnessed the transformative power of education and its ability to shape individuals and communities.” This passion drives him to continue making a difference in our congregation through adult learning and beyond, brining programs like "Growing Older, Growing Wiser" to our congregation, along with dynamic speakers and hands-on workshops.
Together, Bruce and Tamar have profoundly influenced Jewish education and fostered a deep love for learning within our community. Their recognition by the American Jewish University highlights their enduring impact and unwavering dedication to nurturing the next generation of Jewish educators. Temple Judea is incredibly proud to celebrate this remarkable achievement with them. We are truly fortunate to have the Raffs as part of our community.
