From Reflection to Action
04.15.25 | Stories
We hope your Passover began with a meaningful and joyful seder, filled with good food, deep conversation, and the warmth of family and community. During this week of Passover, as we crunch on matzah, we continue to reflect on the fact that true freedom isn't just something we celebrate—it’s something we live. The Haggadah teaches that “in every generation, we are obligated to see ourselves as if we went out from Egypt.” Freedom comes with responsibility—to care for each other, to strengthen our community, and to take action toward a more just and compassionate world.
One of the most powerful ways to live out that responsibility is by showing up—by being part of the Temple Judea community in real and active ways. Mark your calendar now for TJ's Annual Congregational Meeting on May 14 @ 7pm, an important opportunity to learn about what’s happening at TJ, ask questions, and help shape our shared future. As we look ahead to the new fiscal year beginning July 1, we’ll begin sending out information about how to renew your annual commitment in May and June. Your timely response is so helpful to our planning and to the strength of our community. And for those who are able, we hope you'll consider becoming a Pillar—by contributing above and beyond—which helps sustain everything we do, from joyful Shabbatot and inspiring learning, to moments of care, connection, and justice.
When we strengthen our community from within, we’re also better positioned to extend that strength outward. Passover calls on us to take our reflection and turn it into action—not just for ourselves, but for the world around us. On May 1, join the Early Childhood Center in supporting children with disabilities at our sister school Beit Issie Shapiro in Israel by donating to Cycles for Smiles. Then, on May 18, come together for Mitzvah Day—our biggest day of community action! With something for everyone, the day features a blood drive, e-waste recycling, donation collections, and hands-on social action projects for all ages. This isn’t just for the Social Action Committee—it’s for the entire Temple Judea community. Can’t join us that day? You can still participate in the E-waste Recycling Drive by dropping off items anytime between May 12–18. Each of these opportunities reflects our deep commitment to tikkun olam—repairing the world, one thoughtful act at a time.
May this season inspire us not just to remember our shared past, but to step forward and build a brighter, more compassionate future—together.
