As the High Holy Days approach, Selichot gives us a meaningful opportunity to slow down, reflect, and begin preparing for the year ahead. The word Selichot means “forgiveness,” and the tradition invites us to look back on the year that has passed, consider where we may want to grow, and enter the High Holy Days with greater intention.

Every year at Temple Judea, we try to do something meaningful for Selichot and fine-tune the way we approach this special time of year. This year, we're bringing together both new and traditional elements, creating opportunities for learning, reflection, prayer, and connection with one another.

We'll begin on Friday, September 4 at 5pm with a community adult learning session accompanied by wine and cheese, where we'll explore the holiday of Selichot and set our intentions for the High Holy Days, all before coming together for Shabbat services upstairs.

Then, on Saturday, September 5 at 8pm, we'll gather for our Selichot service, with coffee and dessert to enjoy together. This traditional moment in the Jewish calendar gives us space to pause and reflect as we prepare for the Days of Awe.

Whether you're looking to deepen your understanding of the High Holy Days, reconnect with Jewish tradition, or simply take some time to pause and reflect, we invite you to join us. Selichot is an opportunity to begin this year's journey together, with intention, meaning, and community. We hope you'll make time to be part of these gatherings as we take the first steps toward a new year together.
